Remember Friday Night Movies?  Well, I'm reinstating the tradition for
1999.   As others have expressed interest in hosting, it will move 
around from time to time.  Other interested parties, let me know.  The

"Mildred Pierce" - A mother's love leads to murder.
(USA, 1945) Directed by Michael Curtiz, starring Joan Crawford, Eve
Arden, and Anne Blyth as Veda..."Oh, Veda!"  This classic film noir won
Joan Crawford her first and only Oscar for Best Actress.  It was also
nominated for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and
Best Support Actress for both Eve Arden and Anne Blyth.

Memorable Quotes from "Mildred Pierce":

Mildred:"Veda, I think I'm really seeing you for the first time in my
life -- and you're cheap and horrible."

Veda: "You think just because you made a little money you can get
yourself a new hairdo and some expensive clothes and turn yourself into
lady, but you can't because you'll never be anything but a common frump,
whose father lived over a grocery store and whose mother took in
washing!"

Ida: "Personally, I think alligators have the right idea. They eat their

Straight from the celluiod closet files, Ida is played by butch Eve
Arden, who was frequently cast in thinly veiled lesbian roles.  Here's
