Hello everyone, Miles and I are hosting a movie night in the city home (143 West Brookline St.) on Friday March 10th at 7:30 p.m. Let me know if you can make it. The following is courtesy of Kestrel Motion Picture Co.: The next presentation at Friday Night Movies: Friday, March 10th @ 7:30pm *** Harold & Maude *** They met at the funeral of a perfect stranger. From then on, things got perfectly stranger and stranger. (Original 1971 tagline) (USA, 1971) Directed by Hal Ashby. Starring Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort. Awards: Nominated for Golden Globes for Best Actor (Bud Cort) and Best Actress (Ruth Gordon). Memorable Quotes: Maude: A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they're not dead, really. They're just... backing away from life. Reach out. Take a chance. Get hurt, even! Play as well as you can. Go team! GO! Give me an L! Give me an I! Give me a V! Give me an E! L. I. V. E. LIVE! ...Otherwise, you got nothing to talk about in the locker room. Harold: What were you fighting for? Maude: Oh, Big Issues. Liberty. Rights. Justice. Kings died and kingdoms fell. You know, I don't regret the kingdoms--I see no sense in borders and nations and patriotism--but I do miss the kings. Maude: He thought they were the most beautiful birds in the world. Then he found they were only seagulls. Maude: Vice, virtue, it's best not to be too moral - you cheat yourself out of too much life. Aim above morality. Trivia: When considering the role of Harold, Bud Cort asked the opinion of director Robert Altman, his mentor. Altman cautioned that rising star Cort might find himself forever typecast. Fearing that he would be typecast as crazy, Bud Cort turned down the Jack Nicholson role in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). His next film wasn't until 1977. Goofs: Crew or equipment visible: When Maude pulls the banjo out of a cabinet, you see the reflection of crew and lights.
