Welcome to

The Friday Night Movie
Annual Oscar Contest

Oscar Night was
Sunday, February 26, 2017

The ballots have been tallied and the 89th Academy Awards are over. It was a crazy night with several upsets and of course the biggest snafu in Oscar history when La La Land was mistakenly named as the Best Picture before it was awkwardly corrected. I am very happy that Moonlight eventually got the top award. It was my favorite film of 2016 and the first LGBTQ film to be so honored.

Thanks to all for taking part in my 15th annual Oscar contest. Congrats to the winners, Trish Mistric and Patricia Morris, who got 15 out of 21 right in the feature-length categories. Patricia, my coworker and a long-time contest participant, won the competitive category (for family, friends and colleagues) and the movie passes. Trish Mistric won the non-competitive category and impressively nailed all three shorts categories! Trish found my contest on the Interwebs years ago and has played every year since. Second place was a 3-way tie between Emer Kelly and former champions Nelson Wong and Erik Hobbs with 14 features and 2 shorts right. Third place was a crowded field with six folks guessing 14 features and 1 short correctly.

All the results are posted below. If you don't see your name in the list, I did receive several entires with no name so email me directly and we'll figure it out.

Check out the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) Oscar site for more details on this year's Oscars.

Thanks for participating. See you on the red carpet next year.
